Wild & Scenic Film Festival 2016

Forget February's Freeze! Warm up with friends on a Valentine's Day afternoon with enlightening and inspiring films. It's the traveling Wild & Scenic Film Festival, and it's our annual friend and fundraiser for Missouri River Relief.

New Location!

Windsor Auditorium - Stephen's College, Columbia, MO

Windsor Auditorium is accessed off Broadway downtown, just East of College.  Parking is best accessed across the street.  There is a foyer that will have a snacks, food & drinks this year.  There will be beer, coffee, smoothies, you name it!  + our traditional bake sale & silent auction.  The theatre seats 300+ people, so bring your friends!  Or your special someone for a Valentines Day treat!

• River tunes will be served up with a group of local musicians headed by songwriter Robyn Ricks.

About the Film Festival

The Wild & Scenic traveling film festival has over 100 venues across the country showing environmental and adventure films that illustrate the Earth's beauty, the challenges facing our planet, and the work communities are doing to protect the environment.

The festival is the brainchild of the South Yuba River Citizens League from Nevada City, CA.

We hope these films might inspire you to take action for the health and beauty of our community!

River of Eden 

(5 min) - Pete McBride - 2014. Love in the Tetons

(9 min) - Amy Marquis, Dana Romanoff - 2014. Our Valentine's Day feature! Fifteen years ago, Juan Martinez, an at-risk teenager from south-central Los Angeles, stepped off a bus in Grand Teton National Park and saw the stars for the first time in his life. Silent River

(25 min) - Jason Jaacks, Steve Fisher - 2014. Since the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement 20 years ago, U.S. companies have used the Santiago River as their own waste canal. Filtering a Plastic Ocean

(6 min) - Rory Banyard - 2015. Blackwater Drifters

(15 min) - Nick Caiazza, Joe Zimmerman - 2015. A Missouri River Relief exclusive. These men quit their jobs and paddled the Missouri/Mississippi Rivers Source to Sea to highlight the effects that we are having on our rivers and the quality of our water sources. Aina - That Which Feeds Us

(23 min) - Josh Thome, David Mossop - 2015. This astonishing film contrasts the agricultural chemical and biological researching being done on Kaua'i with the agricultural traditions reawakening on the island.

Our Power - Black Mesa

(8 min) - Mark Decena, Teri Heyman, Kontent Films - 2013. The intersection of climate and justice. The Navajo people in Black Mesa, Arizona are trying to protect their aquifer from a nearby coal mining plant’s pollution. As part of the Climate Justice Alliance, they strive to generate “energy without injustice, power without pollution” by using solar power instead of fossil fuels.

Why I Think the World Should End

(5 min) - Brandon Sloan, Prince Ea - 2014. St. Louis native Prince Ea looks deep into our crumbling world for hope in each person. Prince Ea's website. 

Story of Place

(8 min) - Sinuhe Xavier, Justin Clifton - 2014. Deep into the unprotected territory of Southeastern Utah, Author Craig Childs narrates the story of this grand landscape, how it has shaped each and every one of us, and the threats this wild landscape is currently facing.

Martin's Boat

(24 min) - Pete Mcbride - 2015. A handcrafted boat. A canyon saved from a Colorado River dam. The legacy of the man that convinced the country it was worth saving. A legacy floating on water.
