The History
The West Bottoms were founded around the 1860s with the arrival of the railroads and was the original downtown of Kansas City. The proximity of the two rivers and the flat land for railroads quickly made this location the economic engine of the area. The area capitalized on the industrial revolution of the railroad industry allowing for the Livestock Exchange to be the distribution hub of Midwestern cattle around the nation and other smaller industires such as seed warehouses, furniture stores, and household products to prosper.
The Program
Enjoy drinks, dinner, live music, a silent auction and awards presentations from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Featuring Scott Mansker of Rivermiles, organizer of the MR340 Race as our MC for the evening.
Dress attire: River Business Casual. I think that means you can dress up if you want to :)
The Kaw Mountain Band plays the best traditions of Bluegrass and Americana music. Located in the Kansas City area, the band draws on diverse influences from the original Appalachian mountain music, to the delta blues, to country and western from the plains of Kansas to the Pacific Ocean. Combine that with our unique Midwest grass roots, and you've got a sound that covers a lot of ground.
Pick a Prop and Strike a Pose! The KC Gala will feature a one of a kind photo booth including #MORivefHero props such as real life river cleanup tools, lifejackets, paddles, river treasures and more. The best Facebook profile photo's start here!
