More Races on River in 2010

After the success of the Missouri River 340 race, some new races have been added to the Missouri River this year. The "Race to the Dome" is one of the newest. Scheduled for July 3, it's a 16-mile paddle from Hartsburg to Jefferson City, and it benefits Missouri River Relief.

Here's a rundown of the Missouri River races we are aware of. (If you know of others you'd like posted here, email us with info)

  • May 28 - 30 - South Dakota Kayak Challenge - Yankton, SD, to Sioux City, IA - 72 miles through the unchannelized Missouri National Recreation River.
  • June 19 - Canoe for Clean Water - Glasgow to Katfish Katy's (Huntsdale) - There are actually two options for the race. One is 15 miles, the other is 50 miles. Ends at Katfish Katy's with a River Festival. Benefits Missouri River Communities Network.
  • July 3 - Race to the Dome - Hartsburg to Jefferson City - 16 miles - A sprint that finishes at the state capital. Benefits Missouri River Relief! Thank you Patrick Lynn and Andy Niedert for putting this on!
  • July 4 - Kansas City Sprint Championships - taking place at the huge KC RiverFest celebration, this is a 2.5 mile sprint race.
  • July 27 - 30th - Missouri River 340 - Kansas City, KS to St. Charles, MO - 340 miles in the world's longest nonstop river race. This is the crown jewel. There are still slots available for men's, women's and mixed tandem and women's solo. Hosted by Rivermiles and benefits Missouri River Relief.
  • Sept. 4 - 5th - Race for the Rivers - Washington, MO, to Columbia Bottom CA - There are two options. 1. Race for the Rivers - 65 miles in two days, or 2. Clean Water Challenge - from Weldon Springs to St. Charles. Hosted by and benefiting the Greenway Network.
