July 14 Big Muddy Session:

"Beyond Catfish: A Peek Below Muddy Water at the Diversity of Missouri River Fish"

We all know about catfish and sturgeon, but can you name any other Missouri River fish? Few people know the denizens of the Big Muddy deep as well as the biologists at the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office here in Columbia. Biologist Andy Plauck has been studying Missouri River fish for years, and this time he'll give a window into the many fish species that never make the headlines. From minnows to paddlefish, it's a dizzying diversity - and he'll even bring some live specimens for you to see!

Zebra Mussels found on Big Muddy

In the past several months, Missouri Dept. of Conservation biologists and Missouri River Relief volunteers have zebras confirmed three sightings of zebra mussels on the lower Missouri River within the state of Missouri. The sightings were at Kansas City, Chamois and Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area.

The invasive mussels clog water intakes, foul boat motors and compete with native mussels and fishes. Click here to read more details on how to keep from moving mussels from infected to non-infected streams. Or click below to read more and find more links.
