Missouri River Relief hires full-time Education Coordinator
New staff member to expand outdoor learning experience for people of all ages
In an effort to deliver unique educational programs on a larger scale, Missouri River Relief (MRR) hired Alexander L. Prentice as a full-time Education Coordinator. The Education Coordinator organizes and implements learning festivals and service learning programs in conjunction with MRR’s river clean-ups and environmental outreach programs.

These are just a few of Missouri River Relief's accomplishments from throughout the year. As we celebrate River Relief's 10th Anniversary this year, despite major flooding, we have been packing it in! Jump on board as we continue the journey, working on 10 years of good, clean trashy fun!

July 12 Big Muddy Speaker Series
"The Secret Life of Sturgeon"
Tracking and studying the rare and endangered pallid sturgeon in the massive, muddy water of the Missouri River is not an easy task. Emily Pherigo, a biologist working with the US Geological Survey will be describing some of the innovative techniques and technologies they use as they study the fish, its habitat and its behavior. This is the second in our two-part series on the pallid sturgeon recovery efforts.

Record floods pound Dakotas, moving downstream
A combination of 140% normal snowpack and heavy rains have filled mainstem Missouri River reservoirs and the Corps of Engineers has begun releasing unprecedented flows of water from the dams.
Sandbagging has begun in Montana, North and South Dakota as predicted releases seem to climb each day. The latest announcement on May 28 is that lower dams, including Gavin's Point Dam (the most downstream dam) will be quickly increase their flows and be releasing 150,000 cubis feet per second (cfs) by mid-June. These predictions have been changing daily.
Heavy rains in the lower basin have caused levels there to spike and most communities from Omaha downstream are predicted to enter flood stage by this weekend.

To check river level projections at all gages along the Missouri River, visit the NWS Advanced Hydrological Predictions page for the Missouri River. Click the gages you want to see on the left, then the information you want on the right, then click "Create my River Page" at the bottom. This can then be bookmarked for continuous reference.
