2009 Clean-up Results
Up and downriver, 2009 has been a monster year for Missouri River Relief. Like all good ideas, mobilizing thousands of volunteers to clean up the Missouri River has attracted a long list of skilled partners, sponsors and just plain hard workers. That's what makes this project work, and the results speak for themselves.
Our hard-working volunteer crew has travelled from Yankton, SD, to the Mississippi River helping communities clean up their stretch of river. Over 2,000 volunteers joined in the effort this year, removing over 57 tons of trash from 71 miles of the Missouri River and its tributaries.
In addition to cleaning up this river we love, we work hard to put our equipment and knowledge to use educating both adults and children about this amazing resource. Since we started in 2001, we've brought over 10,000 students and teachers to the river to experience it first-hand.
We know we can't do it alone, so this year we published a "Big River Clean-up Manual" - a guide that can be used by organizations on the Missouri and other rivers to help plan their own clean-ups.
We invite you to check out our 2010 schedule, and we'll see you on the river!
